Analyzing the works of Bâkî and Nâbî, two major Turkish poets in the genre of the Turkish Classical Ottoman Poetry presented in the book, the author disputes the methods of their definitions as the representatives of the Rindane, or Epicurean type, and Hikemi, or wise type, respectively. As for Bâkî, together with the hedonistic and pleasure-oriented outlook, there is Nâbî with his reflection of the governance of wisdom; one can establish that there is a creative interaction in the works of the mentioned poets at a deeper level. Despite Bâkî’s predominantly Rindane mode of poetry, there are ethical expressions which represent Hikemi tendencies, and conversely, despite Nâbî’s representing on occasion an air of hedonism reminiscent of Epicurean philosophy, there are few samples of poetry welcoming Rindane sentiments. Thus, there are two main opinions of this work – this approach hinders the examination of poems that these poets created by using narrow classification; nevertheless, this work aims to assert the flexible classification. With a comparison of Bâkî and Nâbî, this paper argues how the two poets surpass the paradigms of both entertainment and moral demeanour, and contain social critique. This paper shows that Ottoman poetry has a strong Islamic Sufi impact, which have classical philosophical strands that cannot be defined clearly. This flexible framework enhances the appreciation of the elasto, not as being a simple or unrefined literary tradition, and may be used as a paradigm when exploring other literary cultures. Newer studies should also investigate such Thematic Vocabularies in other Ottoman poets and comparative writing with the Western poetic philosophies for a better realization of the degree of philosophical interaction.
